As Irma Maurice provides a blow by blow commentary of the memorial reading for Ian Blake at Golden West Hall, Wendt is again reminded why he avoids poetry readings. When it is his turn, Wendt reads from his work-in-progress after which he is celebrated at a local hipster dive where he hooks up with Grace Niklia, the police inspector. Wendt falls head over heels off the cliff of love with the police detective and also learns who dropped the dime on his old friend, Dick Granahan. On the slog back to Balboa, Wendt replays his conversation with Grace and engages in the correcting of his mental transcript. Then, narrowly escaping being hit by a car, Wendt ends up in bed with his neighbor for some scary sex.
